-Bryan Robertson

"Hey everyone! My name is Bryan Robertson and I'll be running for your Chem Club President for 2012-2013. Over the past three years, I've had a great time getting involved and meeting so many people through the Chem Chem. Whether it was playing paintball, socializing at the Quaff, doing demonstrations at White Oaks, or playing sports, I've always seemed to have such memorable experiences. As next year's president, I promise to be able to lead the club and the exec team, and to continue providing all chemistry undergrads with great events, merchandise, etc. Better yet, having held three different exec positions since I've come to Western, I am already extremely familiar with how to run the club, and my experiences will not only help improve certain aspects of Chem Club, but also provide guidance to newer members on exec. Above all, I really want to make the best of my last year here at Western, and being President would give me the opportunity to give back to the club I've been involved in so much since I arrived here in first year."

-Sheneth Fernando

My name is Sheneth Fernando, I am in Second Year Chemistry, and I am this year’s current VP Outreach. Since I am currently VP Outreach, I am planning to run for president for next year! As a member in my first year, and an exec in my second, I know that I have what it takes to help run an exciting, efficient and strong Chem Club! The Chem Club was very well organized this year with everything from the first year chem help sessions, the chem merchandise, athletics, outreach and finance. Since I have experience in the club, I can help the new incoming VP’s to learn and carry out their responsibilities, and create a team that can work well. I am always accessible and open to suggestions, and I would love to take on the role of president. Please vote for Sheneth Fernando as the 2012-2013 President! Thank you.

VP Records

-Susanna George

I am a very dedicated individual who has had a passion for chemistry since high school. I am currently a second year student in the Honours Specialization in Chemical Biology module. Throughout my years at Western, I have been very involved with the campus as well as the London community. This year I was part of this club, the Science Students’ Council - Academic Committee and the Western Undergraduate Research Journal. I also volunteer at Mount Hope and with the Charity Committee. I have also been the secretary of my high school student council for two consecutive years.

I would be the ideal candidate for the position of VP Records because I am very responsible and am determined to help my fellow undergraduate students obtain maximum benefit from their faculty. I would like to do this by ensuring they have the necessary information for academic and non-academic opportunities within the Faculty of Science, especially Chemistry. All of my experiences have prepared me for the position of VP Records because they helped me develop excellent organizational skills as well as an ability to be a team player. Through my experiences, I have also been able to improve on my interpersonal skills and plan events in accordance with others for the benefit of the student body. Conflict resolution skills as well as the ability to overcome challenges were also added bonuses that I gained.

VP Academic

-Nancy Wang

Hi! My name is Nancy, I am currently in my second year at Western. As a person, I would describe myself as quiet but friendly, dedicated and responsible. I am an open minded person who loves to hear from others and at the same time, I am a strong academic who is very goal-oriented. I have had lots of experience in tutoring and academic event organization in the past, which makes me a great candidate for the VP Academic position. One of the things I love most about the chemistry program is how close-knit everyone is as a group. I hope that as the VP academic, I can take an active part in bringing the Chemistry student and staff community together.

-Seowoo Kim

I would like to apply for VP Academic! I think I would be a great fit for this position because I enjoy helping others and also have experience. I was 2nd year representative for Chem Club this year and have helped out at several tutorials, March Break open house and National Chemistry Day this past year. I maintain good grades and have tutored all throughout high school and university, so I have the experience to be VP Academic. I am responsible and friendly and believe that I will be a great candidate for this position.

VP Sports

-Stephanie Barbon

My name is Stephanie Barbon and I am a third year Chemistry student. I have been part of the Chemistry Club for the past two years now, and would love the opportunity to be on the Chem Club exec next year. I am running for VP Sports, as I have always loved being active and playing sports. I played on all three of the chemistry club’s intramural sports teams this past year, and had a great time. I would love the opportunity to make next year as fun for others as I had this year!

VP Merchandise

-Jordan Walwyn

I’m currently interested in running for the VP merchandise position currently open in the Chemclub. I’m interested in becoming an executive member of the Chemclub because I would like to become more immersed within the chemical society at Western and feel that a position would help me reach this goal. In second year alone my love of chemistry has grown. I didn’t enjoy chemistry in high school however, in university, the labs and teachers really changed my views on chemistry. It’s now my specialization because I find it as one of the more “fun” sciences and I really hope that in the future I can help inflict the same feeling among other students. I also think that because of the small size of the program, it’s easier to enjoy chemistry because you know everyone in the program and by becoming a member of the Chemclub, it would eventually help me do this. By becoming the VP of merchandise, it would allow me to express myself and my creativity to attract students into chemistry and also maintain, and possibly improve upon, the current chemistry students’ swagger.

VP Outreach

-Matthew Vriesen

My name is Matt Vriesen and I am from Windsor, Ontario. I am currently enrolled in the Honours Specialization module in Chemistry. I love to participate in everything the Chemistry Club has to offer! I have taken part in nearly all of the Club’s events, from National Chemistry Week to the March Open House. I was also a member of all three of our intramural teams this and last semester. I feel like I would be an excellent candidate for this position because in addition to these, I have experience in other outreach programs, such as HOMES (Housing Oriented Ministries Established for Service), where my duties included framing, drywalling and painting houses for low income families. My main intention as the VP of Outreach is to educate the public and prospective students in the wonderful world of chemistry and to advocate our fantastic faculty with the credibility it deserves. A big project I am looking to create for the following academic year is a volunteer-based tutoring group geared towards helping first year students struggling with chemistry. Let’s face it – TAs and professors do not have enough time to help students with all of their problems! This group will strive to eliminate the frustration that comes with not understanding a problem and not being able to find someone to help.

VP Communications

-Kit Harrison

my name is Kit Harrison and im interested in running for comunications, ill be going into my fourth year next year and think i would be good for the job.

im not really sure what you want in terms of a blurb, but i have experience with computers and could quickly learn to navigate website update. and promotions i can do as well. im not sure what the constraints are but i love big letters.

hope this is enough for it to be acceptable for me to through my hat in the ring.

-Stephen Andebirhan

My name is Stephen Andebirhan and I am running for VP communications. I think I would be great for this position because I am hard-working, diligent, and very reliable. I am currently one of the first year representative of the chemistry club, so I have experience as an executive member. I am a huge chemistry fanatic and will most likely be seeking a career in this very broad field! I am confident that I will do a very good job maintaining our website, display cases, and bulletin boards. If I am elected as VP communications, I promise to keep track of all chemistry club events and to make sure that everything is updated. As a first year representative, I have become familiar with the club and the various events we run. If I am elected, I promise to work my very hardest to ensure that my duties as VP communications are fulfilled. I would appreciate the opportunity, chem club. On April 2nd, please vote Stephen Andebirhan.

VP Finance

-Brooke Hofbauer

Hiii! My name is Brooke Hofbauer and I have been on the ChemClub exec for the past 2 years. I began as a first year representative, and currently hold the position of VP Finance. I would like to be re-elected as VP Finance for many reasons. Firstly, I love money. Secondly, I am organized and have kept complete and detailed financial records of the club up to date. Thirdly, I am responsible, trustworthy, and obviously, I love chemistry. You wouldn't want anyone else handling YOUR money for ChemClub 2012-2013!!! Vote Brooke!

VP Social

-Gareth Everand

My name is Gareth Everard, and I'm interested in being your VP Social next year. I'm a first year science student with a lot of experience in event planning.

In my final year of high school, I was voted into the position of External Social Director on the school’s Student Council. My major responsibilities were to plan, organize, and execute the school’s largest external events, Semi-Formal and Prom. However, as a member of the Student Council Executive, I also helped arrange many of the smaller-scale, internal events such as school dances and spirit days. Because there were too many limitations on semi formal created by the district school board, I decided to organize my school’s Semi-Formal on my own, as an event un-affiliated with the school. It drew out 500 students, and the venue was sold out. The event made a profit of over $4000, which I donated to United Way, an organization my school is involved with. The event was widely considered the most fun event of the year by students from every grade.

Later that year, I organized the Senior Formal (Prom), along with a marketing campaign for the event. It was the most profitable Senior Formal that had been held by my school in 15 years. I feel that my experience organizing these events would be very beneficial in the position of ChemClub VP Social as it gave me recent experience organizing, promoting, and operating events planned both with a governing body (my school, teachers council, parents council, school board), as well as on my own.

I would love to organize events for ChemClub next year because I know I could do it right, and all Chemistry students need a study break sometimes!

-Erica Till

My name is Erica Till, and I am in my third year of chemistry and running for VP Social. The Chemistry department is small, as everyone knows, but this just gives us a better opportunity to become a very close-knit crowd. Events such as the Quaff with Prof and the holiday parties give everybody a chance to meet outside of the classrooms and labs in an informal setting to just enjoy themselves and the company. As well this provides an invaluable opportunity to make ties with upper-year students, who are always willing to give advice and help out during tough or stressful times. These events helped make my past two years in chemistry so much fun, and as VP Social I would do my best to ensure that these events continue to be one of the best parts of your chemistry career.

-Milly Huang

My name is Milly Huang currently in the first year of the Biological and Medical Sciences Program.

I have had a passion for chemistry ever since high school and would love to help plan events for Chemistry Club next year!

Planning and organizing events is one of my favourite hobbies. Every year, my friends of my High School arts program and I put together a fundraising event called

Chestnut Hill's annual Christmas Carol where we combine our talents in our respective arts (music, dance, drama, visual arts) to create a show for my community.

The shows are a huge success every year - the kids all loved them and we collected many food items for Canada's Food Bank.

I wish to combine my passion for chemistry and organizing events for Chem Club - being on exec next year is my dream!
